Stop SOPA Blackout Journal

Mon Jan 16, 2012, 11:20 PM

Do you care about your rights?

I care about your rights.  SOPA is an infringement upon our rights.  Do you want the government controlling which websites it approves the use of?  Our freedoms for thought and free speech need to be protected for free internet.  In protest, blackout your pages, go silent, spread the word.  Petition sites you care about to do the same.

Who does SOPA effect?

Everyone who uses the internet.  Facebook, Twitter, social networking sites which cannot control the content posted by it's users and will be held responsible for it.  This is forced censorship.  This will not stop piracy.   This will effect law abiding citizens.  It does not protect our rights, it treads on it, spits on it, and throws our rights out the window at 100mph.

Blacked Out!

Guys, this is important. (Blacked Out Journal)You need to read this.
:thumb279725047:

We need to work together, across the globe, to stop SOPA and PIPA.  Join the fight to keep the Internet free of censorship!  Don't let bigots and politicians decide what's best for you to see online!

To spread the word, post this in your signature, on your Facebook/Tumblr/Twitter, on your YouTube, POST IT EVERYWHERE!
This account will remain silent on #J18 January 18th, 8am-8pm (EST) as a protest against SOPA/PIPA.

I'll be offline from EVERYTHING from 8AM on the 18th to 8AM on the 19th (EST)!  Twelve hours is good for the protest, twenty-four is better. :iconsupe
SOPA! Wednesday is blackout dayLet's all go against it!

If you're unsure what SOPA is it stands for: Stop Online Piracy Act.

Wikipedia and a few other organisations will be blacking out their websites on Wednesday the 18th. :iconGillianIvy: made this theme, so I figured I'd use it to show my support- probably will be busy working on my project anyways. :S

This Account Will Be Blacked OutGreetings! In participation with #StopSOPA, I've decided that this account shall be blacked out on Wednesday from 8 am to 8pm to protest SOPA and PIPA. I honestly don't know what I will do with myself. You all have fair warning.

Protest SOPA and PIPA. Especially you American peoples. Write your congressman and representatives, tell them not to vote for either.

Get the skin and spread the word.
Taking my part in the SOPA Protest:iconGillianivy: Has made this wonder skin :thumb279881381:  Please considering using it to show your support of the upcoming protest. Thanks!

It was a bill proposal which had to do with copyright and the internet.  There's more info in `TimberClipse's journal:  #StopSOPA - Jan 18 - Web Blackout + Response to dAPlease See Edit 10 at the bottom for Response to dA update

I do not know what current incarnations of this bill are being presented, but last I knew, this bill was shelved but not killed.  It basically was a threat to anyone using social networks, as if people were posting any infringement, the site could be shut down.  Forcing these sites to censor their users from posting links.  This video breaks it down rather nicely: www.fightforthefuture.org/pipa…  You would have to look up current info though, since this is a bit out of date now.

The protest is for being against this bill that would be promoting censorship to fight piracy. But it will not prevent or stop piracy, it will only serve to censor the freedoms of law abiding peoples. Hopefully they will find a better way to abolish piracy and copyright infringement without trampling the rights of all.

heehee FFFFFF is white, and FFFFFF is black. Actually I also have 2 shades of grey and white for the journal edit mode so you can see what you're typing. I make simple journals over complicated. If you look at the CSS it is not so simple :giggle: I am a CSS addict. I have to add hovers and glow/shadow to everything...

You wrote FFFFFF for both black and white. :paranoid:

:giggle: I know CSS is hard, I've tried it. So far I've only been able to edit other peoples CSS and make it into something new, not do it from scratch. I have liked what I've done. [link] [link] They're simple, but the art is beautiful thanks to the lovely *AkuBaka

lols :dummy: hahaha apparently I should read what I type 000000 is black. Never let me walk in a zebra crossing zone.

First Sta.sh link didn't work for me. And wow, the other is so pretty, going to go check out that artist now ;D

If you ever have CSS questions, feel free to hit me up, I am a total geek about it. And usually I do read what I type!

Beautiful! Sometimes, it seems Sta.sh links might not work if it were moved or something? I'm not sure. I'm trying to transition to use Sta.sh for my live previews, but their previews are not 100% right. So I can't. I gave them a lot of excessive feedback, so hopefully they'll improve Writer for my intended use. I want to use it to do journal skinning mostly. And previews are imperative!

Definitely participating at the personal level! Sadly I'm required to access internet sites for business, and there is no way the healthcare industry can black out for 24 hours... or rather, we could, but it would be extremely messy and potentially hazardous to one's health!

Thanks for creating and sharing this!

What do we do to black out exactly? Just post something like this and not log in all day or what? I'm very confused lol. Someone said something about htmls and javascripts and I'm all sorts of discombobulated. I definitely want to support this though.

Yes, not logging on effects the websites you frequent greatly. Log out of everything and don't have any (or minimal) online activity. The protest period is 8am-8pm, though many are doing 24 hours.

For the skin, you can install and skin your current journal or post a new one.

For HTML and Javascript, that is for your own website or blog to add a line that blacks it out for you for just that day. It is on the stop SOPA protest site for that code.

I'll not see you then! ;D
